Alexanders New World Order
Was Alexander in the process of creating a new world order out side Athens and the narrow minded High Minded Attitude.Posts have been made with the resentment towards Alexande as they say a change to there archaic feudal ways that had devided and crippled Greece for years. Its been said Alexande just a military genius but I feel we can see threads he was much more, as one Ancient Greek writer wrote of him to be the first Philosopher dressed in Armour, was he philosopher was he a thinker i think he was he understood his logistics and Im sure he understood what he was doing when he conquered he tried to maintain the status quo of the region and tried in little ways to fuse hoping they all accept his ideas.Mixed marriages, orientals fused into his forces im sure he was sure of himself and the love which the normal people held for him maybe it was that, which made him think he could carry it off, when he lived he did I have no doubt the regular people and soldiers ,people loved him.The rulers the hierarchy and nobles could not all they could see was a threat to the way of life they had been used to for centuries a world for the privalrged few.Its this view point I hold that Alexander was indeed murdered, by people in staus saw a change comming and were not going to let it happen,Republican Rome saw the threat of Caesar and got rid of him, Alexander was far too popular to run through at a forum the Macedonian soldiers would never have followed anyone who murdered a king that they loved in such a nasty way.I also hold Aristotle as been a little pissed with Alexander his ideal roll model to spread his ideas of Helenism that all apart from Greek be barbarian, Alexander treated no one as barbarian and embraced all that came to his cause, he cause was a new world order.kenny

Hi Kenny,You seem to imply that Caesar's murderers were allowed to get away with it. Admittedly it took some years to get rid of them all - but then there were a lot of them and they had many people who sympathised with them. All the bestMarcus

Hi Marcus,These people killed Caesar to avoid chaos and civil war but by doing so that's exactly what happened. Sound familiar (diadochi). All the bestAndrew

Hi Andrew,One could argue that the decision to murder Caesar had nothing to do with averting civil war - after all, Caesar had already won a civil war and was in control of the Republic. Rome was probably more stable than it had been since before Marius and Sulla turned on one another. All the bestMarcus
Re: Alexanders New World Order
I guess a hidden agenda behind Alex's never ending conquests may well be the awareness of the disloyalty of his own generals and the restlessness of his own troops. Had he settled down to consolidate (or live long enough for that)and give the administration his empire needed he may well have trouble with his own nobles- I certainly too had the feeling that he was murdered judging by the behaviour of the diadochs. However historically his non-military ability still remained somewhat untested but his never ending conquests does defy certain conventional wisdom. One wonders what happens if Darius merely shadowed his troops and denied battle like the Romans did to Hannibal - or sent a portion to recover lands Alex had passed...
