Troy

Post by dean »

Hi folks,Just finally got round to watching the film today- better late than never and although I suppose this will be old news I still have a few comments to mention.First off, I thought that Brad Pitt did very well in his role- the wardrobe was excellent too and the fight sequences were also brilliant. There were huge inconsistencies with the Iliad version supposedly the story that inspired the screenplay. I understand that they have to wrap it all up in a nice package and sell it like any other Hollywood product but I think that the liberties taken were simply huge.Menelaous killed at the hands of Hector during the fight sequence with Paris? Priam not killed by Neoptolymus? Achilles killed on the night of the sacking and not outside the gates of Troy? Did Micenean folk place circular ornaments similar to coins over the dead's eyes? I wonder.Oh, what the heck, it was a damned good film!!!Best wishes,
Dean.

Not to mention 10 years replaced by 10 weeks! Still, I enjoyed it too. The recent TV film 'Helen of Troy' was more true to the Illiad but I didn't enjoy it half as much. I wonder if we will be as forgiving with some of the Hollywood slants Mr Stone will take!!?Kit

YES, I'd still like to see it again!!
and NO, we won't be so forgiving. This is a really critical group when it comes to "our Hero". But...I do have faith in Oliver Stone since he has R.L. Fox as consultant...So, let's see...ruthaki

Hi,
I came late to watching this film too and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I must confess that I'd thought Brad Pitt would be useless, but I thought he was really good and he looked fantastic too. Maybe the trick is to try and switch off "critical faculties" and just watch for entertainment so that the errors don't get on your nerves and spoil the whole thing. (Not sure I will be able to do that though when it comes to our hero!)Cheers,
Kate
