Banyan Tree

Post by Cyrus »

Some days ago, I visited the historical island of Qeshm in the Persian gulf (I think Nearchus, admiral of Alexander, has mentioned this island), there were some wonderful and huge trees with awful hanging roots which were called "Banyan", It is said that Alexander has camped under a banyan tree that was big enough to shelter his whole army of 7,000 men, have you heard it? Was there really such a large Banyan tree? This is an ancient Banyan tree in Kish island: http://www.pbase.com/image/20139370

Hi Cyrus,Yes, that story does exist. I'm afraid I can't remember which source mentions it - but I think it's Justin or Diodorus. All the bestMarcus
