Greetings,Quick question: would have General Memnon of the Greek Mercenaries attended the Congress of Corinth council in late 338BCE? Would he have been there to listen to Philip's proposals?Thalestris

IMHO: no, because Memnon was serving the great king.Philip had already tried to destabilize Asia Minor (cf. the rebellion of Hermias of Atarneus), and Artaxerxes III was already trying to create a barrier against Macedonia (cf. the armed support for Perinthus in 340 - the first Persian invasion of Europe since Xerxes). The Macedonian-Persian war had, in fact, already broken out.It is unlikely that under these circumstances, Memnon, as commander of the great king's Greek mercenaries, could have come to Corinth.Jona
