Re: Am I right or am I wrong?
Hello Andrew:I'm betting you realized immediately that Dino De Laurentis is producing Baz Lurhmann's film, based on the Manfredi novels and with DiCaprio as Alexander - and NOT Oliver Stone's movie. Lurhmann's movie is still listed on pre-production schedules and a new draft script WAS submitted recently. The news was in Variety, but the online links want you to pay for further information. It *could* be a real copy of this script, but it looks rather doubtful, especially as the seller has listed the whole cast of Stone's movie! :-)Best regards,Linda Ann

Re: Am I right or am I wrong?
Thank you Linda,I seem to recall some minor collaboration between Oliver Stone and Dino De Laurentiis back towards the end of 2002 but that could have been hearsay. I remember the Greeks or Macedonians, maybe both, had brain aneurisms and heart attacks when they heard Stone was getting ready to make a movie on Alexander and mentioned filming parts in Greece and of course they said no way. Oliver Stone believes in the poison theory as do I, (SPECULATION).Anyway, this is a very poor example of making money by misplacing the truth. I appreciate your response. All the best,Andrew

AndrewI like what yousay, direct and with a lot of focus.I also feel Stone Will go with the poison theory, and even though he likes vthe conspiracy theories,i'm with you on this one, I always believed our man was knocked off.By disgruntled greeks or Macedonians whe as always liked there silly ways of life and would have none of Alexanders ideas upon his return.Just look at the evidence how long it took the greeks and Macedonians to totally destroy all that he had put in place.regardskenny

Well, Kenny, one could argue that it took the "Greeks and Macedonians" almost 300 years to destroy what Alexander put in place... and that the Romans kept bits of it going for another 300 years...I suppose it depends on what was "put in place"...:-)All the bestMarcus
Re: Am I right or am I wrong?
Point taken and accepted Marcus.I would argue the Greeks held on to what they wanted at the same time trying to stake there claim to the glories that were attained by Alexander and the Macedonians in the name of the Greeks. But its fare to say that the Greeks tried and would have eradicated the name of Alexander of Macedon, kinde of like tipexing his name and maybe replace it by an ilustrious Athenian. Its fare to say that I hold the Greeks of today, very differently from the Greeks Alexander tried to apease, My best friendon the net is from Athens we debate about the Greek Macedonian debate, but it really has to be put into context, greece was not as it is now,and I am sure that the capital of Alexanders having been completed would not have been Athens nor Macedonia. It has to be accepted that Alexander was probably the worlds first glodal king, ruler, even conquerer a man as we say that moved with the times, I am more and more comming round to thinking that Alexander was much more than a military man, much more an adventurer with vision beyond his days.Regardskenny

Re: Am I right or am I wrong?
Oh, I do hope Oliver Stone goes with the poison theory. Yes! As for the modern Greeks and Alexander, having lived in Greece and traveling/visiting there besides since 1978, doing research there etc. I have found the Greeks to be very interested and helpful on the subject of Alexander. I couldn't have done such amazing research without all the enthusiastic help I've had including from the former Consul here in my city who once arranged a flight for me to get my research done. And when I was there, from my Greek journalist friend who arranged interviews with professors and classical scholars at the Society of Macedonian studies. I have hear very few degoratory comments about Alexander. They all seem to consider him quite a hero.
