Proper terms for people and regions.

Hi again. Can anybody tell me what the real names of Darius and Porus were? Most books I've come across give greek references to non-greek people and regions. It sounds absurd to me that modern authors don't use the proper names for people.

Darius: His original Persian Royal name was 'Darayavaush', to be translated as "he who is holding the good". The Greek/Latin name Porus is a rendering of the Indian Puru, the throne name of the ruler of the kingdom Paurava. (http://www.livius.org)Regards -
