I'm going to be flying into New York later this month, then pretty much immediately leaving the city. However, I am hoping to be able to eke out a single hour at the Met museum. I've never been before, and the 1-hour time limit is strict. So... I need some help The website says they have 30,000 in the Greek and Roman Art collection, 7,000 in Ancient Near East, 26,000 in Egyptian art, and that's not even including the limited-time exhibition of reconstructed painting of ancient sculpture... clearly I am not going to be able to make much of a dent... but is there anyone familiar with the place who has a short list of special-interest-relevant favourites?

Much of the Greek section is pottery, but as you enter, a big head will greet you. It's *probably* an Alexander. Then if you walk down the hall to the end, and start there, you'll find Hellenistic stuff (including another bronze Alexander) and some Ptolemaic material, Seleucid, the famous "hetaira wrapped in a himation." But if your time is limited, I'd go "backwards" through the Greek stuff.







The Neo-Assyrian and Achaemenid Persian is upstairs in a different room. Worth a visit if you've time.

But man, that'll be an expensive hour. Admission isn't cheap. I'd weigh whether it's worth it. You could spend most of your time in line, I hate to say.
