Thank you Alexias,i could not ' Isolate" only the statue. The lecture s summary is as follows: I will not mention the incredible difficulties this remarkable aechaeologist faced, due to the composition of the soil, and the the constant appearance of water( Indeed the name ' Salalat' means "warerfalls") The most important fact is that she found the level of the Ptolemaic era ,and in the ptolemaic ' block' ( ptolemaic quadrangle- maps )And besides the remains of an important building she foud a statue. The statue is an ORIGINALof the School of Lyssipus ( 1: 9) of excellent art.As long as his hand ,holding the spear was found (Αλέξανδρος δορυφόρος) the arhaeologist speculates that this is a statue of Alexander-also he has two ribbons which only the Kings and Dionysus wore, the hair has the famous αναστολή, and the head is turned to the left And the archeologist continues : because we don t have original statues of Alexander , and all we have are later roman copies, that most copy the god Helios etc, perhaps this is the the real face of Alexander , given that the statue belongs to the first hellenistic period, and to the school of Lyssipus ? Also the site of the founding is very important.....http://www.iefimerida.gr/news/349424/te ... to-eikones

Here is where the excavation takes place (yellow marker):

Image

Reconstruction of Alexandria is from here:
https://www.academia.edu/4662183/recons ... Alexandria

The location is at the cross of the central roads of Alexandria, towards the palaces.

From Strabo: "The Soma also, as it is called, is a part of the royal district..."
From Achilles Tatius "Going a few stades further I came to the place called after Alexander, where I saw a second town; the splendour of this was cut into squares, for there was a row of columns intersected by another as long at right angles."

Combining these two reports, I believe excavation takes place around the area "called after Alexander" and definately into the palaces. This is a public building.

The excavation reports are here:

And additional photos here:

Additional reports and info here: http://www.hriac.com/

I expect the 2017 report (with more specifics and photo about the tunnel/arch) to be uploaded soon in that webpage.

Thanks very much for all the info, gepd. It looks as if the excavation is on the edge of the Sema. I managed to take this screen print of the head. Looks familiar.

Well it is on the edge of one proposed location of the Sema in that reconstrucion. Andrew was putting the Sema one block closer to the Canopic road, others put if further deep into the palaces, but I think most people agree now it is around the height of the central crossroad intersection and on the side of the Canopic road that leads to the palaces.
