I was messing around on sites claiming to give ATG quotes, and one interested me - if it's accurate!"In faith and hope the world will disagree, but all mankind's concern is charity"Was this Alexander?? If so, in what context?Chris

It's certainly not one I've heard before, and it doesn't sound like Alexander to me. Not least because the trinity of faith, hope and charity are distinctly Christian. It sounds more like something from an 18th century sermon or moral pamphlet - quite Wesleyan, I'd say!All the bestMarcus

I have never read any Alexander quote like that - nowhere - not even in the Romances. (Maybe Tre can solve it... otherwise it is an invention.)Regards -

It sounds more like Mrs C F Alexander, a Victorian hymn-writer - she wrote "All Things Bright & Beautiful", and "Once in Royal David's City". I can't think offhand of any Alexander quotation that is likely to be authentic.Susan

It's Alexander Pope - Essay on Man

For forms of government let fools contest; WhateGÇÖer is best administerGÇÖd is best. For modes of faith let graceless zealots fight; His canGÇÖt be wrong whose life is in the right. In faith and hope the world will disagree, But all mankindGÇÖs concern is charity. All must be false who thwart this one great end;
And all of God, that bless mankind, or mend.

Essay on Man. Epistle iii. Line 303.
