The Jataka Stories

Dear Susan,It was excellent. This is exactly what I had been trying to do - looking beyond the standard works and I fear my days are numbered. Anyway I have been trying hard to find Alexander in the Jataka stories but have not succeeded yet but there is precious stuff in the Cullakalinga Jataka. You can use Prof. Cowell's translation. Only you must remember not to be distracted by Jones. I have maintained that Diodotus was Asoka and Asoka's famous Kalinga war was in the Parthia-Iran area not in modern Orissa. Pliny gave Parthalis as the chief city of Kalinga which should tell you something. This story is about Seleucus and Chandragupta. I am sure you would enjoy it.With best regards,Dr. Pal
