Ha! My first thought was of Robin Lane Fox and his love of the fox hunt. This is surely something RLF would have pointed out years ago if it was in any source. :P Certainly foxes were hunted or trapped (the fur alone must have been nice in the winter and they would perhaps have been viewed as pests (read competition) ))...but apparently, as per usual, Alexander seems to be the go to guy for dubious historical precedents.

Alexander also enjoyed the occasional game of football (either kind) and I am sure that in some unsourced text, he also found a Macedonian Britney Spears easy to dance to, as well, but thought she should lay off the unwatered wine.

I now have an image of Alexander in a scarlet coat shouting Tally Ho!

 Apparently he was a big fan of Keith Richards, too ...

:D That was the image that came unbidden to my mind, too!

Now, now Marcus...we know that's impossible...Keith Richards only looks 2400 years old. 8)

Are you sure? I'm convinced I have a Stones album from 340BC - although I can't play it because the grooves are carved in stone ... it is 'rock' music, after all ... (boom tish!) :(

It was recorded that Alexander went fox hunting in his Journal (the Ephemerides), which was written by Eumenes.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Because people may ask where the above can be found:
Plutarch, Alexander 23 … … In his times of leisure, however, after rising and sacrificing to the gods, he immediately took breakfast sitting; then, he would spend the day in hunting, or administering justice, or arranging his military affairs, or reading. If he were making a march which was not very urgent, he would practise, as he went along, either archery or mounting and dismounting from a chariot that was under way. Often, too, for diversion, he would hunt foxes or birds, as may be gathered from his journals. After he had taken quarters for the night, and while he was enjoying bath or anointing, he would enquire of his chief cooks and bakers whether the arrangements for his supper were duly made.
Best regards,

Nice one, Taphoi and Amyntoros. Thanks for providing that source!
