Dear Friends,

Next week I will be travelling to Verghina and Pella in order to get to know more about the origins and culture of the Macedonias.

I have already planned to visit the Royal Tombs in Verghina, but besides that is there anyother intersting thing that you could suggest me on this trip?

For example, is Pella worth going? And, Ive red that the Royal Palace has been under restauration for quite a long time, does anybody know if its already open??

Maybe this can sound quite obvious and studpid, but I just cant get any hold on the Tourism Department of this place.

I appreciate all attention,

Cheers

Sergio

Well, eighter people don't know any informations about these places, which I consider impossible speaking of such an important Alex forum OR people just don't feel like helping.

Very disapointed since I was told and heard this forum was really friendly, helpful and wise..guess its just a tail.

Anyway I will keep visiting the forum, but no participation.

Regards,

Sergio

Sergio, I'm really not sure if any of the members most active on the forum right now have actually been to the places mentioned. I know of two members who have visited these places in the past few years, one of whom writes a tourist column in Canada, but neither are frequent visitors to Pothos these days. There are others who went to Greece many years ago and are probably aware that things have changed as far as the archaeological sites and museums are concerned. I do understand why you may feel you've been ignored, but most people are not going to post just to say, "Sorry, I can't help". I wish I could advise you on your visit but unfortunately Greece is a long way away (and expensive) for me.

Best regards,

Hi Sergio,

See the reply from Amyntoros above. But I would like to add my own apologies for the lack of response to your original note. Unfortunately, the summer is also when Pothos does tend to go a bit quiet, with people on holiday - for example, you sent your original post on 21 July, and I was away from around then until the second half of August. To be honest, if I saw your post when I got back, I figured it was too late to reply, as you'd indicated that you were about to go.

Please do let us know what you thought of the sites!

I've been absent for awhile (yes, visiting Greece again!) so I wasn't here to reply to this question sooner. I have been to Pella and to the tombs at Vergina/Aigai several times as well as to many other Alexander sites in Macedonia Greece. I can guaratee they are worth a visit. Whether or not they have finished excavating the old palace site at Pella, I don't know (it was still under excavation the last time I was there about 4 yrs ago and I didn't go up north this time). But the tombs are a wonder and you will certainly not be sorry to visit them. I can hardly wait to go back!
