What is your thoughts on the reasons ATG pushed forward from the onset. His father killed and him left with what? A young man with a territory somewhat stable but threatened after the death of his father. His position seems dubious no matter how long his father lived. Was he assured that he was god/man at an early age and acted upon this instilled concept. Did he first act on stabilizing what was left to him then act on agressive intuition to expand his father's territory and become more powerful. Was it totally him or advisors who helped to attain his desires and possible linage.
Looking at all aspects of ATG's life it is of interest to me to read your input on this matter.

I feel relatively new myself, and I really appreciate your questions. I think that the important thing to remember about Alexander is that he was literally raised in a military lifestyle, that he ate, drank, and slept it, realized as successor to his father that he would be responsible for his own kingdom, and thus, when his father was killed, was ready for the job so to speak. He had already proved himself as regent at age 16, and then at 18, had saved his father's life at the battle of Charonea. It appears that he was studiously following in Philip's footsteps all along, and yearned for the day that he would take over. He grew up believing in himself, and with his own natural born genius, was ready at a moment's notice, and proved it. Since he himself is said to have believed that he was Achilles reborn, perhaps the Achilles in him made him a natural for this place and position in time.
Just my thoughts. Can't wait to see how others respond to your question. I am only a very recent discoverer of Alexander too, but this much I have gleaned.

I consider myself new for having only discovered Alexander in the past five years. Most are very long term so I still feel new despite the time spent here. Jan
