Reading Alexanders military shinanegans its fair to say he was a lucky boy.

Its admirable that he hid lead from the front. But just how lucky was he until the arrow nearly finished him. We gotta think Alexander was engaged in scores of incident without been killed. Horatio Nelson didnt get away with it walking about HMS Victory like a Peackock we can again conclude it was an exercise by Nelson to inspire his forces against bigget odds but he became unstuck and was blasted.

We know Alexnder was wounded many times but its uncanny the guy didnt get wasted.

I think that's one of the most amazing things about Alexander. I imagine that it has a lot to do with the nature of warfare at the time. I'm more familiar with the stats for medieval warfare than ancient, but I have always been surprised that so relatively few soldiers were actually killed in battle. This was partly due to the armour, of course, and also partly due to the nature of the wounds that they received.

Of course, many, many more soldiers died of wounds received in battle - gangrene, blood loss, etc., especially if they weren't treated quickly enough.

Certainly, though, it seems that Alexander's wound at the Mallian town was extremely unlucky!
