I have deleted recent threads on Macedonian origins. They are outside the scope of this forum as they invariably descend into personal & racial abuse. Rather than sorting through the messages deleting those which are unsuitable, I've deleted the whole thread.

Hi Marcus, I respect the position of the forum that the modern political issue regarding the current Macedonia politics be excluded.However,it is hard to resist counter posting when people like Bob Sass continually bring up the matter with a clearly anti Greek sentiment(not saying that differing positions are anti Greek) and anyone who expresses a view similar to the positions of Hammond,Robin Lane Fox,Paul Cartledge,Ulrich Wilken and other well respected non Greek historians is labeled a Greek nationalist fanatic by the likes of Mr Bob Sass. In addition Mr Sass in almost every post mentions his ancestral backround family history ect ( what ever ones ancestral backround is and should be irrevelent to the forum ).In addition Mr Sass seems preoccupied with what he beleives modern Greeks think ( again irrevelent to the forum).Mr Sass in addition made comments implying that mere dissagreements his idolized historians Borza and Badian are somehow expressing racism torward his ancestry despite the fact that I never commented nor even discussed anything remotely related to his roots.In addition his understanding of ancient sources is severely lacking. For what ever reason Mr Bob Sass's inquiry over the degree Greekness of Macedonia seems to be an issue for him that goes beyond mere intellectual curiosity but one that is highly emotional and personalized for what ever reason.Kinda strange for someone with admittedly has no ties to the region He likes to portray himself as someone being abused on this board ( seems to get the sympathy of others) yet he himself brings up the Macedonia issue with a very biased position. Maybe you can understand why the reaction

Although opinion by its nature is biased - particularly if it disagrees with others' opinions.It is interesting though, the single-mindedness of it that is Jim.The problem of discussing the issue - even in ancient terms - is amply evidenced by those the debate attracted though. I am not biased between either of the cultures, have friendly contact with those from both Macedonia and Greece and find the insulting messages on some forums absolutely disgraceful.
It's a pity Alexander is not around to settle these arguments.....!
