Hail CompanionsWas Alexander integral and a man of his word. I just read some posts in another group the Post was entitled Alexandewr was a man of his word. This is an area I have not really pondered and try to think of an instant where he went back on his word. Would we say that the Mallian Massacre was an instant he went back on his word.I am pretty sure as with most leaders as a rule Alexander tried to keep his word yet in some instances they couldnt be kept. Im sure there must have bean reasons for the Mallian Massacre not just he wanted them slaughtering.RegardsKenny

They did things differently back then. Nowadays they just drop a load of bombs and kill thousands of innocent people. The Mallians darn near killed Alexander so his people retaliated.

You may be thinking of the siege of Massaga where 7,000 Indian mercenaries were guaranteed safe conduct if they agreed to surrender and join his army. Either they tried to trick Alexander by agreeing to his terms up front with the intention of escaping during the night. Or Alexander tricked them into surrendering with no intention of letting them live. Whatever happened, they were massacred. If it was the Indians that planned to escape, and Alexander found out about it, then the decision to eliminate them was probably warranted. The fact that they were allowed to pitch camp next to the Macedonians indicates that Alexander got wind of their plan and decided to act before they escaped and became a problem. later Nicator
