Barry Strauss Alexander biog?

Post by apelles »

Hello everyone,I,m new to this forum.I just read a superb book on the Battle of Salamis 480B.C.by Barry Strauss,Professor of History and Classics at Cornell.I was impressed by the scholarship, but also by the wonderfully vivid style of writing. Can anybody tell me if he,s written an Alexander biography and if so what was your opinion of it?Thanks.

Hi Jane,I'm not aware that Strauss has written anything on Alexander. I try to keep up-to-date with who's writing what, so I think I'm right in saying that he hasn't.Nice to hear that you enjoyed Salamis - I've paused by it in the bookshop a few times, my hand hovering ... it sounds as if it might be worth reading. All the bestMarcus

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the info.I,m sure you,re right
and Strauss hasn,t written a biog.--maybe articles.I can certainly recommend"Salamis" if you,re thinking of reading it.If you,re still hovering over it,try the first page of chapter one,"Artemisium",If you can,t help turning the page, you,ll love it!
Thanks again,Jane.
