I found a wonderful illustrated book written and edited by Nick McCarty, published by Grammercy. Seems that Nick works for the BBC, and yesterday, I bought the copy that I found at the top shelf in Brentano's. Had a friend there. Cover is of the famous Roman copy of a Lysippus bust, my personal favorite, so I had to own this one! Consider it a prize! Anybody know anything about Nick?

No, but I just bought the book too. Beautifully illustrated but I did note a few errors in info in the text. I haven't read the entire book yet, just scanned it so far. I good one to have in your Alexander collection.

Hi Ruthaki, You have made me very happy! I can't wait for your book to be published soon too. How are you coming with it? In Nick's book, I like the graphic illustration of Persepolis near the back of the book, and all the paintings of Issus and King Porus too. This is simply a great book to own, so congrats! Jan

Hi Jan and Ruth,I had a brief look at this in the shops a little while ago. It certainly looked sumptuous - unfortunately I couldn't really justify the cost at the time, particularly when the text was a bit 'basic' (I don't mean that in a nasty way - but it ain't Heckel or Bosworth, for eg.).It's certainly one that I thought I'd like to get at some point, because of the lovely pics. Nick McCarty has no academic (or even broadcasting) credentials for doing an Alexander book, however ... as far as I know. He's done some travelogue programmes on the BBC, I think, but none of them Alexander based.ATBMarcus

Hi Marcus again, I just checked on the search engine to see what the book is listed for in answer to a query I received about it. It costs only $15.99, or $14.39 at Barnes and Noble. I bought my copy at Brentano's, and it was $15.95. For all the illustrations, I thought it was worth it.Jan

I bought my copy on a recent visit to a small town where there were a couple of good stores (that one might have been a Book Warehouse, can't remember) but it wasn't very expensive. No more than $15. which I thought was a good buy.As for mine..I'm on my Spring break and trying to keep to a disciplined course of writing each day, slogging through it to wind up to the Macedonian civil war. I'm going to write some things about it on my blog. Just wrote one "The Importance of Being Earnest" after an upsetting confrontration with someone over my work and subject matter (Alexander)
