Alexander by Guy MacLean Rogers

I admit that I read a lot of the books on Alexander by perusing them at the book store, deciding whether to buy or not to buy. I read the last two chapters of Rogers book today after reading up to the Battle of Granicus in Lonsdale's book on Alexander, a study of military tactics. I liked Rogers' effort to distinguish Alexander from Hitler, Stalin, Genghis Khan, and other leaders who are often compared with him. He does try to discuss Alexander's religious influence as well. His book is quite interesting to read if you have not discovered it yet. It just seems to me that more and more books are written all the time, each author being a person of considerable years studying and digesting Alexander. One can build quite a library from contemporary historians and the nice thing about Rogers is that he includes the variety of material available to serious students. I recommend this book for its balance and fairness to the subject.
