The Macedonians in the Peloponnese

Post by ruthaki »

Could someone please enlighten me as to exactly what role the Macedonians had in the Peloponnese? For example, Polyperchon (acting Regent) was in the Peloponnese at Megalopolis during the time Eurydike usurped the Regency and tried to put Kassandros control. I believe the Macedonians had links in the Peloponnese going back to Philip's time but I'm not clear on this. Thanks.

that's no small question and i don't have much time now. there is a lot say:
Argead descent
the League of Corinth and Sparta's absence from it
the Agis War
Many Peloponnesian states participated in the Lamian War
the strategic importance of the Peloponnese in the war between Kassandros and Polyperchon
to name just a few things. Can you be a bit more specific about exactly you want to know?

Thanks. Yes, I am mainly concerned right now with the war between Kassandros and Polyperchon. But I have read before about the Macedonian connection in the Peloponnese (Poly seems to have spent time down there previously). Megalopolis is so remote and far from Macedonia it seemed strange that they were battling down there so if you have any more details about this I'd appreciate it. Perhaps you might suggest some reading? Thanks a lot.

almost everything we know about it comes from Diodorus Books XVIII and XIX , so you might start there (the Loeb edition has an index, so you will find the relevant passages easily). I don't have much time now, but i'll post some more info when i have more time.
