alexander The wandering Nomad
Reading and Studying Alexander, I think its fair to say he really had no roots nor home, He was the original suitcase dweller.I wonder if he would ever have settled down and been at home, I think the man was always wondering and wanted to see what went beyond.Would it be an excercize ind simplification, That he was an adventurer with an appetite for personal achievement and the zest for a good scrap.I personaly doubt Alexander would have stayed anywhere for long, I dont think riches or extravagance were impotrant to him.He must have spent most of his life in a tent I just wonder what it was in his own head what he was actually searching for.Kenny

Kenny, when you are king of the world, you are always at home anywhere.
Re: alexander The wandering Nomad
This is exactly the point I like about Alexander: because of his "nomadism", when you study Alexander, or travel in his footsteps, you meet a lot of remarkable other nations.Jona
Re: alexander The wandering Nomad
You make a great point about Alexander that I have never thought about. It makes you wonder what his parents were like and if he had any brothers and sisters? I wonder at what age he decided to become a part of the greek army and conquer the world? Yea I mean from the stories I have heard all you hear about is Alexander fighting all these awesome battles and conquering numerous territories. I think its true what you say that he spent most of his life in a tent. I think I read somewhere that the Oliver Stone's film tries to address that. So it should be interesting to see hows it played out in the film. I can't wait!

Again you're right Kenny. The man had a wanderlust.
Or discoverylust.
Definitely powerlust. To go where no man has gone before, to see other civilizations and people with different customs.
To marvel at the wonder of their works, palaces and temples; similarly in the woven fabric of their society.
Call this one too, Wonderlust...Remember:
His inspiration was the Iliad. His mentor Socrates.
The father left for campaigns and came home victorious. Undeniably, lives in him an ancestor named Achilles. In mind, in heart, and as in blood. It must have an adventure to walk horizon after horizon and see the wonders of this earth unfold.
More so, and becoming an ultimate satisfaction is when what you see around you, and behind you, calls you "King and Conqueror"....
What's left is just what's ahead.
Why not keep on moving forward then?It is not just Alexander.
It is a very human trait in some of us.
After all in all reality and truthfullness,
we are never "rooted" to a spot.Nowadays, we just substituted the old tent for an RV with an "on the move digital satellite tracking dish" and microwave.Alexander or no Alexander, desires the same.Of course a few claims exceptions.
Till you hit a traffic jam full of RV campers.
Then you begin to wonder...
