Greetings,I am probably behind everyone on this, but just saw the National Geographic special on Alexander tonight (the one with Andrew Chugg, Robin Lane Fox, Paul Cartledge, John O'Brian, Partha Bose, etc?) and would appreciate comments from those who have viewed it. Was anyone else as disappointed as I?Regards,
Sikander

Sikander, how did you see this? Isn't this the program that's supposed to air in the US at the time the movie is released over here? I forgot what it's called, but its about the making of the movie. Or am I totally confused? :-)Linda Ann

Greetings Amyntoros,I'm afraid I don't really keep up with this sort of thing, so I can't say whether it is the same one. I received this as a gift. This one has a free pass to the upcoming movie in it, however, so it cannot be *too* old. We were disappointed in its historical inaccuracy (for example, it has Philip being assassinated in the evening at a private family gathering)and were disappointed in the lack of location filming, which is what we had hoped for.We found some other things disappointing also but will leave that for others to comment on. Regards,
Sikander

Hi Sikander,
I was filmed by National Geographic TV in June, mainly on the subject of the sarcophagus in the British Museum. I know that Paul Cartledge and Robin Lane Fox were filmed around the same time by the same crew, so you have evidently seen the resultant programme. I am at a disadvantage, because I have not seen the programme. You have probably seen it before everyone else, rather than after. I know that a DVD on Alexander by National Geographic is just recently available from Amazon.com and someone has been taking pre-orders on Ebay, but only you know whether this is what you've seen. It is region 1 encoding, so 95% of the world is denied visibility of it! I know that it was done on a very modest budget. My contribution was free of charge. The makers did, however, film the sarcophagus made for Nectanebo II, which may have been used for Alexander's body, and is now in the British Museum. Assuming this was included in the final cut, it may be of interest to people in the US, who cannot easily get to see it otherwise. Sorry, if I disappointed. (I have no responsibility for any strange versions of Philip's death.) Best wishes, Andrew

Greetings,I do not mean for anyone to think I am casting aspersions on the interviewees; my disappointment was in the Geographic staff who, with people at hand and the sources available, created such a weak, predictable production.Actually, I would have liked to have seen more of Andrew's views, more military discussion, more political analysis, and less of a slant towards making this something at a high school level. I hoped for more depth and accuracy. Perhaps less "psychoanalyzing" and more detailed chronology and a few attempts at introducing the people around him, since Alexander did not develop in a vacumn. . Also, the commentary on the weddngs at Susa, coupled with the selected scenes, was somewhat- amusing in a sad way. All in all, not what I had hoped for, which is *not* to say the people interviewed did not do well so far as they were allowed to contribute. This does not mean that others would feel the same, so I am interested in your views.
Regards,
Sikander

i bought this dvd and i did get a $12 voucher included, from amazon. anyhow its not that i was disappointed in it its just the fact that it didnt offer anything "new" or that hasnt been already been said. i like to hear different perspectives.
anyhow for the price and the $12 voucher for admission id say it was well worth it.
