Some time ago,in our country a programe was made wher a Scotland Yard Investigator, Tried to solve Alexanders death. One aspect that interested me was the way he dismissed the theory of poisoning, his only reason to dismis it was to sayu that it was not the Macedonian way.I really couldnt get my head round the idea, He had all the evidence, form and motive as to why the house of Antipater and cassander would do it.Myself I think poisoning would be the only way to take out Alexander by stealth,, Would any wanabee assasin whos ambition was control of what they had,,, risk a head on attack on Alexander,,, Would Cassander have the balls to take a shot,,, I very much doubt it even if he did stick Alexander im sure hed have enough fight to take him out.The only practical and workable way to get rid of Alexander was as it was byu stealth,,, Does anyone agree poisoning below any would be assasins in Alexanders empire.regardskenny

This is an old, old debate. But, in reply to you Kenny...A few years ago when I was in Greece doing research for my novel I had an interview with a Prof. who was a head of the Society of Macedonian Studies in Thessaloniki. One of the questions I asked her was about the poison theory. She completely agreed with it and so that is the one I am going with in my novel. As none of us were there and nothing is exactly recorded other than what happened at his death bed, who really knows? And poison was a means used in those days to get rid of people quickly. (I don't believe it was a traditional poison...ie hemlock..or they would have detected it quickly. I think it was something mixed bit by bit with his wine that weakened him in his already fragile state just to make sure he would not survive.

Hi Kenny,
I do not to be redundant as I already responded to the I know how Alexander really died post already, but according to Andrew Chugg's article in Minerva magazine, Alexander most likely died from the bite of a mosquito. Chugg makes a good case in this article for malaria. I am a bit dubious that if he lost his voice that any of his so called last statements were ever really made.
