http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=doroudI was searching something about Alexander in the News section of Google that I found this strange title in a well known Iranian website, it is true that Iranians don't like Alexander but when we say "Doroud bar someone", it means she/he has done a very great work, did Roxane, as an Iranian queen, do a great work for her fellow countrymen by killing her husband?! (of course If we assume that she has killed Alexander)

Why would anyone believe that Roxanne had killed Alexander? Last thing that I had read is that she had prevented him from drowning himself when he wanted to throw himself into the river. She just won't let Alexander go to the river, very inside info here.

I don't even think Roxana was suspect in Alexander's death. Why would she do that? She was pregnant and had every reason to kill off the Persian princess(s) but not her husband. As for the river story: That's the first time I"ve ever heard that one! ruthaki

The River story is in Arrian 7.27 :"One writer has not even been ashamed to record that when Alexander perceived he was unlikely to survive, he was going out to throw himself into the river Euphrates, so that he might disappear from men's sight, and leave among the men of aftertimes a more firmly-rooted opinion that he owed his birth to a god, and had departed to the gods. But as he was going out he did not escape the notice of his wife Roxana, who restrained him from carrying out his design. Whereupon he uttered lamentations, saying that she envied him the complete glory of being thought the offspring of the god. "Susan

I could be wrong but I think it rediculous, Roxane would kill Alexander.Without her husband, Both her and her sons survival in the Macedonian society would have been precarious to say the least, Proven by the fact that both Roxane and her sone were quickly dispatched by Cassander soon after Alexanders murder. What benefit at all would it serve her to murder her husband, I think none at all.Kenny

You hit the nail on the head, Kenny. Of pretty much everyone in the empire, probably the only person with less to gain by killing Alexander was Olympias. All the bestMarcus

Yeah, I know its in Arrian but that doesn't make it "real".. written down doesn't mean real..

But oh! the drama!

I think the post referring to Arrian was just to point out where the story can first be found. Arrian didn't believe it either, and ends by saying:"So much for stories which I have set down to show that I know they are told rather than because they are credible enough to recount."Then the Alexander Romance took this little story and made it part of Alexander's "history." Of course, the Romance also has Alexander meeting talking trees and other incredible adventures!
