Please help with a source...

Hello everyone, Sometime ago someone posted the 'Sayings of the Spartans'. One I really liked was the one with Phillip threatining the Spartans that if he would attack and if he would lay waste to them if they did not obey and them responding 'if', or something like this. I cannot find this exact quote in the Moralia. Could someone please provide the reference? Thanks,

It *is* from the Moralia, but not from Sayings of the Spartans. :-) You can find it in Volume VI, 511.A (Concerning Talkativeness)'And we must be careful to offer to chatterers examples of this terseness, so that they may see how charming and how effective they are. For example: "The Spartans to Philip: Dionysius in Corinth." And again when Philip wrote to them, "If I invade Laconia, I shall turn you out." they wrote back, "If." And when King Demetrius was annoyed and shouted, "Have the Spartans sent only o ne envoy to me?" the envoy replied undismayed, "One to one."'Best regards,Linda Ann
