It has always been refered to Alexanders Burning persepolis etc, but its selectice to pick his out.The incident where Darius mutilated Macedonian sick at Issus, Xerxes looting and burning Athens Alexander didnt do what happened all the time.But the mystery to me is this,,, Persia was the sworn enemy of Greece they did the things I outlined yet its been said Greek backstabbers is what they were were dealing with Darius all the time taking bribes to instill Agis to rebel.The Athenians were forever getting others to do there dirty work i can only wonder about the Athenians lining there pockets with Persian gold whilst Thebes and Agis perishedregardskenny

Hi Kenny,Athens didn't have anything to do with Agis' campaign, as far as I recall. Agis was keen that Athens should join his anti-Macedonian force, but the Athenians demurred - there might have been those in Athens who spoke in support of Agis, but the city didn't actively support the Spartans.After goading Thebes and seeing what happened as a result, it should be noted that Athens stuck to the terms of the League of Corinth. Demosthenes and others might have talked a good talk in the agora, but Athens didn't actually break the treaty.That's not to say that they were all honourable, or that they loved Alexander and the Macedonians to bits; but it does put a bit more context on things.All the bestMarcus

Try to remember that each Greek city behaved (and in essense was) as a modern independant country. Do not judge actions collectivelly as "Greece" but each city for itself.
Athens (or any other Greek city) wasn't giving a damn for the wellbeing of the other Greek states, it followed the policies that ensured her interests.
