Alexander was away from home most of his adult life so you could say he was an absentee dictator. His mother (Olympias) wanted to rule Macedon herself (or had better ideas on how to run the home turf) and gave Alexander's regent(Antipatros)hell. Before the advent of telecommunications, she sent horrid news to Alexander regularly about her usual suspects, which were, of course, Antipatros and his friends. As a model of The Ideal Tyrant, Alexander rated a piddling 6.5 on the historical scale because he was also capable of genuine kindness, affection, magnanimity and, above all, luv. I mean, the mother of his mortal enemy fell in maternal love with him, for heavensake. And the moment she (Sisygambis)got the news that Alexander had died, she locked herself up in her room and starved to death. For complete and utter fabulousness in the area of tyranny and genocide (minimum required casualty to qualify: one million dead), I recommend the likes of Hitler and Pol Pot. Hope I've been of some help to your...quest. May I suggest a more pleasant mode of political ambition? Friends and enemies say that Alexander knew all his soldiers by name, that's why it took days for them to line up to say goodbye to him on his death bed. Each and everyone of them got to say goodbye. Hitler and Polpot were torched just hours after death. Be a nice tyrant, ok?Best of luck,
Manny
