This is a forum on ATG, not hollywood. Therefore, I vote to have a ban on movie posts until this whole thing blows over. Those of us who want to discuss all things ATG in an intelligent manner are getting irritated!Nick

In the past I've been guilty of wishing the whole production the best of luck, by defending the positive thought I created an opposite reaction that exposed complete immature ignorance, (Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?) is one example out of many! For this I apologize and in the future I will restrain myself from following these individuals into a black hole of stupidity. You have my vote!

Hello Andrew!
I can't agree! Your post wasn't stupid at all and it is very much interesting how they will show object of our passion in the movie. In Your question I saw another much implicating if we believe that the movie will follow the historical facts or it will be another easy movie with no any importands for us.
Well I agree also that there are too many new posts about the movie.Regards
Maciek

Thanks Nick, I couldn't agree more. Actually, the problem you've raised made me somehow disinterested to further discussions.

Hi Nick,I'm not averse to having movie news posted, although I do agree that there is too much of it, and most of it serves purely to fuel pro- or con- arguments as to whether the film(s) is going to be any good.If push comes to shove, therefore, I suppose I'd rather see *no* posts about the film(s) than the prolifertion we've been getting more recently. All the bestMarcus

There's a new site http://www.alexander-the-great.co.uk which has all the film news and a forum - maybe people should post views about the film details there.Susan

Greetings All,Funny how things seem to be black and white, so often.I agree that the pre-release movie posts have been overly prolific, but I see nothing wrong with an occasional discussion. As Linda said, this is a "community" for some of us- and I believe that, if everyone were gathered in a room, there *would* be a movie discussion, and period returns to it. The fact is, *because* many here are ATG "fans", they *will* be watching the movie for accuracy, for where it succeeds and where it fails, and for the battle scenes- and that *will* provoke discussion, on the Forum and off- and I suspect, if we are honest, that that will be true for almost everyone who manages to see it. The real issue seems to be discussion prior to release for most; after release might be a different matter (though I am certain some people will find fault with anything that they are not interested in discussing- but like any human gathering, sometimes they will just have to allow something outside their own interests be the topic). If you go over all the posts, there is often a divergence into personal sharing that has nothing to do with ATG, and that's fine- this Forum has been a meeting place for some of us for many, many years, and as such, we DO have an interest in each other outside ATG; right now, the movie is a common link that all can discuss, all can see the movie links, all can share opinions and laugh and let it go.
After all, in the past there has been discussion on other ATG movies- the only difference with this is that it is pre-release, contemporary, and will probably reach more people, and reach more people who are passionately interested in ATG for diverse reasons. My vote would be that we who have enjoyed movie discussions in the past refrain from discussing it until it is released (many of us will not be able to see it, so post-release discussion may well be welcomed), that we answer in a friendly manner when new people post about it and that we do not assume some sort of intellectual or subject "superiority" over other posters who may be using the movie as a bridge into the Forum, who may be new to Alexander, or who may even just be posting to get a buzz going... Regards,
Sikander

I didn't expect to start such an uproar about this topic, but it needed to be said. I have been just as guilty as the next person when it comes to talking about the movie(s), and I guess we all have a definite interest in their eventual outcome. I would have nothing against the occasional post, and like the idea of setting up a section for links to other web pages designed for those interested in Hollywood. IMDB.com has a forum and would be a great place to go for that purpose. later Nicator

Dear Companions -Now, I am totally confused! For months there has been a debate about censorship.
- no abusive language
- no Greek-Macedonian debate (not that the debate itself is wrong, but postings tend to get out of hand)
- no lazy studentsWhenever I (or any of the other moderators) deleted a message on one of these grounds (or at least thought there was such a reason), there have been protests. It has even been refered to as a "communist censorship" practice. And now? A proposed ban on movie-related postings? Get out of the city! The movie deals with Alexander. The image of Alexander, the way he is going to be viewed by millions of world inhabitants, might be based on this movie for many years to come. Students of the Roman Empire have this same worry about "Gladiator": it has created and 'frozen' the image of emperors as it is perceived by the general public.I have never been a fan of the movie. E.g. I didn't see the whole point of Jeanne's "casting" website at first. It is only now that have begun to take interest in the movie - primarily because of worries / expectations about the way the Macedonian-Persian drama will be presented to the audience.I can understand some irritation. But we are dealing here with a piece of modern "art" that will influence the interest in Alexander for maybe a decade or so. Not discussing this movie might turn pothos.org into a backwater of semi-intellectual creeps who categorically try to ignore what is "happening" to their hero at the moment.Anyway - this thread may be the worst movie-related thread ever. So, if everyone agrees with the ban on movie posting, this thread will be deleted within two hours. Please, can someone provide me with a shortlist of new urgent topics with far stretching effects on the perception of Alexander that need to be discussed?Regards, with a smile,Nick

Please, no censorship!!I agree with everything Nick said. This movie IS going to shape opinions on Alexander (whether we like it or not) and there's nothing wrong with discussing here what that could mean. To anyone who doesn't want to read or discuss anything about the movie: don't click on the link to open the thread! As long as people clearly label that their post is about the movie, this shouldn't a problem.Jay

Discussing sources ranging from meteorologists to engineers, botanists to zoologists. Intelligence to decide the best time to invade the region, how many troops could be supported in the region and how this region might facilitate the next stage of his conquest, customs, innovations, terrain and mobility, just to name a few. This is the price you must pay for you have control of the button so do what you do and continue to take the criticism and thee best of luck to you.

Hi Nick, "no Greek-Macedonian debate (not that the debate itself is wrong, but postings tend to get out of hand)"Aren't these movie postings getting out of hand? It's sort of like discussing Manfretti's books over and over again...what's the point, it's a "FICTIONALIZED ACCOUNT". I'll concede, it will influence a whoe generation of ATG fans and potential fans, but by discussing and partaking in the hype we cheapen ourselves. Pothos will never become a "backwater of semi intellectual creeps", but rather the go to source for the real Alexander (if there is such a thing). Do you want a mass produced Ford Pinto or a High Quality S-Class Mercedes Benz? I don't envy your position. Maybe a warning about the upcoming movie posts along with a link(s) could work. Of course, we don't want to offend anyone, and certainly all should be invited to discuss ATG on any level...a warning would probably deter most from posting frivolously, but not deter them from joining in any other discussions. Obviously, this movie will "the" topic of discussion for most newbies to the site for some time to come...maybe even for several years after its release. So, do we want a movie site, or a site on ATG?yours, Nicator
