I would recommend Xenophon's admittedly confused account over Plutarch's of Leuctra, it is true that the Thebans escaped at Tegyra but there are no retails to this action nor should we forget that the Theban army was now itself a more professional force built around the elite (Queen's Own perhaps) Sacred Band while the Spartans were increasingly becoming an officer class over less willing allies.The new companions were Thessallians and other Greeks, I doubt they thought much of the boar business, but everyone is entitled their own views and I will always be with Napoleon in thinking it was not the Romans but Caesar who conquered Gaul.
