Not sure about the relevance of that post here, but indeed, the question of Olypmias' and Alexander's (and Philip's, to some extent) "Greekness" has been discussed here many times.However, we do tend to try not to get into the subject too much, because it does cause people to drag in modern political polemics, which are against the rules of this forum.All the bestMarcus

now Epirus is Illyrian. what a load of crap? So in that case Achilles was Illyrian as well. yeah right!!! educate yourself, delusional man.slavobulgarians and illyrians have nothing to do with the ancient macedonians who were Greek.

Yes, Olympias was an Epirote (of the Molossian kingdom) and was supposedly born near the city of Arta, south Epiros. I believe, like the Macedonians, they were tribal people and spoke their own dialects (not Greek like the Athenians for instance) but I believe the official 'court' language in Pella was Greek.If you have ever been to Dodoni where she spent much of her time, you will see how isolated they were from the rest of the country.
