Hi Lois (et al):I think typing it up and posting it verbatim would be copyright infringement. Obviously they don't want it copied, if you can't copy it or even link to it. I suggest something like "For the official explanation of the accents, go to http://alexanderthemovie.warnerbros.com/ and click on [whatever you click on to get to it]."Warmly,
KarenKaren

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all, particularly you
English and Australians who don't, as far as I
know, have an equivalent holiday devoted to
turkey eating! See you in a few days.

Re: FAQs about the movie and Alexander
OK, I just came from the movie. Quite a spectacle and yes, I liked it a lot but there were some aspects that were bothersome. One being the accents. Irish/Scottish. I guess, though, because the Macedonians spoke in highland cants the casting people thought this would work. The friend who was with me said it also bothered her and seemed distracting. And yes, some of the lines of dialogue were lame. Overall, I though Angelina Jolie did a great job of Olympias and for me to see the way the portrayed the various Companions was quite interesting. I'm still not sure about Alexander and Hepahestions (have to go and have another look to decide). The battle scenes were amazing and pretty realistic. And the costumes? I loved them, especially those Persians!! (Oh yes, and having been a few times to the theatre ruins at Aigai, I thought the reconstruction in the movie looked quite authentic.) ruthaki

Or perhaps he would take a leaf out of Lysimachos' book, when he read the story of the visit of Thalestris ... and merely say "... and where was I when all this happened?" :-)Marcus

Blimey, that is picky! I don't think that pronunciation of Roxane would bother me - after all, I bet they call them Alexander and Philip ... and even Ptolemy all the way through, don't they?I'm all agog for January, when I can finally get to see it ...All the bestMarcus
Re: FAQs about the movie and Alexander
"What was with all the accents?"That was my first thought aswell when I saw the trailer, but after the initial annoyance I thought "well, would it have been more convincing if they were all speaking the Queen's English?". I'm seeing the film on Friday (Swedish premiere), and I'm actually really excited about it. Judging by the number of seats available (there was only one row in the theatre booked), it might just be that the only people to go and see it will be those who are already familiar with ATG. The rest will just buy Troy on dvd and avoid the snow and popcorn-throwing kids. All the best,Neneh
Re: FAQs about the movie and Alexander
Hi Karen,Thanks for the caution. The reason it's difficult to copy the text is because it's on a Flash site. It makes it secure for the pictures and other extras, while looking good too. However, written articles on the web are just like books or periodicals. If you quote it and give a citation, there is no plagarism so no legal repercussions. We shouldn't be worried about that.Regards,
Lois

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
ROXANE, ROXANA, or??? anyway I believe her real name (in Soghdiana) was RUSHANAK or something like that. The Greeks pronounce "Roxane"=Roxanee
I'm using "Roxana" in my novel but had thought of using her Soghdian name?????
