Hey Sam-True that. I know cavalry cannot mow down a solid line of infantry--they would've shattered themselves against it. I was just saying that, on first impression, that's what it looked like to me.

It's a shame though- for Linda was so right. The orcs were using the phalanx in its most effective manner when I first saw the front rows kneeling down with the ones behind poking the pikes forward (I believe I saw that both in The Two Towers/ Return of the King)- as an 'anvil' holding off a charge rather than as a shock weapon. I have a stong believe Jackson might have pinched his idea off 'Brave Heart' rather than off Alex.Also I think the cavalry were really a crescent in formation so there may not have been a conscious effort in using the Thessalian 'wedge'.
