Hi Karl,You are right. AGAIN. The Spartans would nt have been able to lure Athenian crews away by offering an extra obol a day if they were slaves. Slave were only used in absolute desparation as rule as you would no doubt agree. Rome did enrole a slave legion during the Hanibalic war. Curiously enough it was a great success. The catch was the were no longer slaves (they had been emancipated) and they fought hard and well for Tiberius until he was killed. Then they all pissed off.

Hi Ruth, welcome back!You're probably right about Amphipolis. It was probably a good place to load up Thracian slaves before sending them off to their new lives, too.All the bestMarcus
