Now this is beginning to make sense- I have read that story of the hill jump suicide somewhere; and it is not contemporary to Alexander.
I'll have to wait until October to get to this, but somewhere, in the archives, is the tale. Might have been related by Josephus (not written by him, but related by), so perhaps someone can look there; there is also an "Alexander's Diary" on the Internet, though I can't recall the URL, which was filled with fragments of the fantastic... Will keep this in mind, meanwhile, to try to fnd again.
I would put this on a par with the "Melissa" story I was told, the Albanian stories about Buchephalus and a few others.. I think history is undergoing an incredible revision in some quarters.. We need not rewrite history in order to learn from it and take the best ideas from it.

Do you mean the Masada suicides ? That may be in Josephus.
I know of Alexander's Itinerary on the internet, from the 4th century, but it seems very close to Arrian and not very fantastical.Susan

I mean the story of Alexander telling his men to jump off a cliff to prove their loyalty to him, etc. etc.
Josephus tells some interesting tales that are not all accurate, but as I said, I am unable at this time to access sources- will try in October

Dear Susan,
Thankyou about your info. however you should know that Callisthen was Alexander's biographer who
was jailed for planing the plot agains Alexander and he died later, so he was not able to tell all the story about Alexander as it is in this book. As I said there are two versions and this is posible title...So again this is maybe some otrher book but not Callisthen / Pseudo - Callisthen...

The reason why it is called Pseudo-Callisthenes is that, for a long time, it was purported to *be* Callisthenes' history. Which of course it wasn't, because as you quite rightly say Callisthenes was executed in 327BC. Also, the deeply fictional stuff in the book made it extremely unlikely to bear any relation to what Callisthenes actually wrote.All the bestMarcus

Daer Friends, ... Well I am still searching 'waiting" for the answers of the book re;Alexander, however I am afraid that I have to appologise to our mutual friend Al, i.e (alabacnow), anyway, (waiting for answeres as I said), I must made some comments:...nobody is giving right answers even to my pointed book, even I (forget about it), so thinking about it i am wondering as Marcus pointed out ...fictional book..., so my wonder is who is so "knowledgeable" to wright somthing so sensitive and close/deep to Alexanders soul/dream if not him self... This is not some other book, this is not about fiction, even fiction will find it's own place in science, so again... maybe this is really book written by Alexander and his dreams/vissions... Personal life is for that person only like book i.e. Anne Frank diary..., so our friend Al has point in all this telling us that there must be somthing from Alexander, as I said before, the truth is between two lies and maybe mankind is not ready about the pure truth, so lets make ourselfs open to every and all posibilities becoming friends in real sense before THE TRUTH & LIGHT (BEFORE THE RAIN- Macedonian movie with very interesting topic, yes now is for real...), so lets wait and see...
