In the footsteps of Alexander.......
How many specific places are there that still exist where it is believed Alexander must have been?Is it possible to walk, stand or sit where it is believed he did?Chris

Re: In the footsteps of Alexander.......
Hi Chris,There are loads, I'd say. I suppose you are thinking about *really* following in his footsteps, rather than just going to "roughly the same places he will have gone to". In those cases the most obvious will be doorways to temples etc: I'm sure he went up to the Parthenon in Athens, the temple of ARtemis at Ephesus (where I believe part of the structure still exists), the temple of the oracle at Siwa - and, indeed, quite a few other places in Egypt. There must also be parts of the remains of Persepolis where we can say for sure that he would have stood. We mustn't forget, either, the palaces at Pella and Aigai.What makes me sad is that I know *I* have been to so few of these places.All the bestMarcus

Thanks MarcusYou and me both. I recalled from the Michael Wood series that he stood on a spot at Siwa that Alexander had trod....magical.Chris

Re: In the footsteps of Alexander.......
Chris,As have I! As there is only one door into the temple of the oracle at Siwa, I scuffled my feet along the entire doorway just to ensure that I covered Alexander's exact footprints!
(What's so sad is that that is completely true! The other people on my tour thought I had completely lost the plot).All the bestMarcus

Well Marcus,cheer up--
At least you didn't prostrate yourself on the lintel as I'm afraid I would do if I ever had the chance. :}
