Re: Alexander and the War against Terror
In Spain Napoleon made one of his main mistakes (in my opinion) Spanish people was treated as conquered territory as they were alliants. He wanted to fight with Portugal not Spain but underestimated spanish peop[le after such treatening raised and began to fight. Wellington had easier way because of it. People helped him a lot. Still he was great commander so all this coused great trubble for Napoleon in the second front. I think that Napoleon sitting before third day of Borodino battle was head full of such thoughts and he begen to understand how great was this mistake was. Maybe that's why his commanding in this battle was so poor (or even none)Maciek

Re: Alexander and the War against Terror
Except that, while Wellington had a lot of help from a small number of Spanish patriots, he was also dogged by groups of bandits who didn't really care who they killed, French or British. But while there might have been many sympathisers amongst the Spanish population, there was never a general rising against the French, and the number of people who joined Wellington was relatively small, at least in the early years of the Peninsular War.All the bestMarcus
Re: Alexander and the War against Terror
That's true but it is very importand that Wellington could be calm and had food and communication wery good in Spain - in the same time French had only problems there - for instance - informations what is going on in Portugal or where is Wellington came through Paris to Franch generals in Spain. When they sended some curier they had to give him almost company to protect him - any Franch who stayed alone was killed immidietlly - it was the same like Saxon army in Poland in the beginning of XVIII century when people used to say that when fishing it is sooner to catch dead saxon soldier then a fish. It was no official rising or revolution but theyr guerrilas fought and caused great problem to Napoleons army. Every next act of terror from French side caused next great act of terrorism from Spanish side. Napoleon could speare himself so much truble and I'm sure if he would be personally when this terror started he would stopped it.
