Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Boris HailRespect.I agree and am glad you enjoyed the movie as with life we all have opinions not nessesarily wrong but different. As ive mentioned with Farrel. He didnt show me the charisma to convince. I prefered the Burton persona and know most people hated it but. Burton was far superior and confident and oozed charisma. People bemoan his age at the time. Colin Farrel is nearly 30.Overall the Stone movie was photographically and cinematic more fantastic. Gaugamela has to be at the very top of battle scenes. Alas I thought Hydaspes really rubbish. The battle was far easier for Alexander than the film portrayed. Once he was across the river in force Porus was trapped between two forces. Some of the drama was very good Clietus killing and the Attalus scene.Colin showed real pain in his face.I am in the tiny tiny minority but for me its Richard the voice Burton over Colin pretty boy Farrel. Colin was great as Jesse James and would like to see better films than the home at the end of the world. For the girls im sure hell Deliver the goods in Miami twice.Kenny
Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Hi Kenny,
I think it's hard finding an actor who would be able to play ATG, anyway. Russell Crowe or Jude Law would have been good choices, but they are a bit too old to be real convincing (a younger Russell Crowe would have been fantastic).
So who do you cast in the 25-28 year old age bracket who could step into a skirt to play the greatest warrior/king that ever lived? Thats a tough question. Not too many actors come to mind, in this day in age. What do you think?
Burton was of the old school, a classically trained stage actor, who had the booming voice and charisma in spades, that you just don't find in todays modern actors. He was a true talent and there are few like him, left (thats nothing you don't know already).
It can be said that Colin Farrell is the poster boy for cute, with all the girls. He certainly might be more suited as a Sonny Crockett than a Macedonian king, but his portrayal of Alexander was not helped along by some of the other problems with the film (namely script and editing issues). I don't feel his Alexander was overly done and it may not be up there with how some of the greats of generations past might have portrayed him; but for what he worked with I think he did more than an adequate job. I can't say his speeches were overly inspiring. He's not a Richard Burton or Peter O'Toole (give the boy a few years). But in the other smaller more "intimate" scenes he had, he was very good. In the end I think he put it all together more, than not. I still enjoyed his performance and the film greatly, overall.
Kudos to Oliver Stone for making an attempt to bring ATG's life to film. It may not be the film that everyone wanted, but at least he gave it a go. I am tentative, yet anxious to see how the next ATG film goes (if Baz Luhrmann ever gets it off the ground).

Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Dara hail and respect.I agree totally with your post on Colin Farrel. I cant see Jude Law in the roll. Kinda funny over here there was a poll for the next James Bond. Both Farrel and Jude law were mentioned my moneys with Farrel as 007. My choice of modern actors for Alexander has mostly been dismissed but there has always been somethingf Alexander for me in Leonardo Dicaprio right from the start and his performance in the Gangs reinforces that.My all time choice for the Great king is Kirk Douglas in Spartacus he made us believe in Spartacus so would he have with Alexander.RegardsKenny
Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Hi Dara,No, I do not live in Miami. I saw on the G Block Thursday night the exact hairstyle that Colin wore when he walked in. I live closer to LA than Miami, and who knows why Colin is in this neighborhood, (AZ) but he looked darn good to me. On Fox Report, Shepherd Smith showed him snuggled between his two honey's while explaining away his lawsuit with his ex girlfriend. Then later, a shot of Oliver Stone was also shown, as Shepherd saw fit to couple the pair in his G Bock segment, and I was so happy that he did that.I have a new tool now and am playing with it. I bought it because of the bust of Alexander that nobody seems to know well. It is a recording device whereupon I can make dvd's from old vhs tapes and live television. I now have preserved the Ancient Warriors segment, and learned how much I had missed seeing in the original vhs tape. It is worth the money to me. It is only against the law to try to profit from recordings.

Thanks for the reply, Jan.
I know I am going to hate myself for asking this, and it truly doesn't matter, but...
What is this "two honies" stuff???? What connection does that have to do with the rest of the story.
How long was this piece? There I asked it. Not that I really care, but it has nothing to do with Alexander the Great (except Colin played him), so I won't bother Pothos with this kind of stuff, anymore (I am talking personally).

Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Hi Dara,Well, Colin was wearing his hairstyle swept up front, short, well lacquered, and spikey looking. The cut that Fox showed was a red carpet scene in which his hair is identical to the look he had when he walked into the store. (The store was not the same this morning as many books have been rearranged, and at Walmart, the new director's cut with the bonus material on how Colin transformed himself into Alexander is an added plus.) The price on this director's cut and bonus footage, a separate disc, costs only $19.84. I bought it, as I can give it as a gift if I choose but I want to compare the special edition to the director's cut, and I want the bonus disc also.
Robin Lane Fox and Oliver Stone discuss the making of the film in the special edition version.
I checked today at the same bookstore to see how well Colin could see me from his vantage point. I believe he made an appearance because of me. Simple. Oliver Stone makes it clear in his discussion on the O'Brien website in the section on God which Jeff has been writing for us. I love Colin for his making a personal appearance. It endeared him to me.

I gotcha now Jan. I was wondering what clip you were talking about.I don't know if you will see this before the thread falls off the page, but here are a few new pic of Colin taken just a few days ago in Miami.http://isifa.com/functions/watermark/wa ... 134957Dara
Re: An Opinion of Alexander Movie release on DVD
Thanks, Dara, that is funny. I know. He was on parade in his slicked up hairdo which is a lot like the hairstyle in the bonus disc, only brown. He was very upclose to me, and he dallied around but was very responsive while I was reading about a real deal actor, as I was asking is this Colin or a look alike and at the sound of real deal stepped forward and got into line. He had a super sharp white shirt, very expensive sunglasses, and a slicked up hairstyle, all spikes, like the runway shot with the two dark haired brunette women hanging onto each of his arms. He saw me staring, and stared right back at me. I think that I had made him somewhat uncomfortable in my staring at him so, but he held his cool, and was very comfortable with the crew who waited on him. He made the cashier very happy as she looked like she was in seventh heaven. It is only a jet ride back and to from Miami, and hairstyles are easy to do, aren't they? Everyone knows that there is something about Colin...
