Hello from Athens!

Hello everyone. I've been in Greece for the past month and this is the first day I've logged on to Pothos.org. Didn't get up north this time (I was tour-guiding a friend around the Ionian Islands) but I've been doing some on-site research around the Agora and other local sites just getting my settings correct for the last few segements of my novel. As usual, it's great to be back here in Athens, my 'second home'. Yeia sas, Ruthaki

I am a Greek nd a permenant resident of Athens. I can tell you that the Parthenon looks as good as new!

You're right, Maria, everything (including the Parthenon) is looking just fantastic. (but why don't they tear down that ugly Fix building?)
So many excellent positive changes and restorations. Athens looks beautiful as ever!Janet, I would hope they scrap that stupid cheesy idea of the Alexander mountain. I'm sure he'd turn in his grave!

Well, of course, the idea of carving out the mountain was originally dreamed up in Alexander's lifetime (if we're to belief what we read). He didn't like it then, so I imagine you're right that he wouldn't like it much now ... perhaps unless the design were by Lysippus! :-)ATBMarcus

Hi Marcus, I saw a great design for the one that was supposed to be done in his age, and it was really fantastic. It was in that exhibition book that took place in 1982. The statue was of him sitting alongside a waterfall, full figured and really magnificent! That one I would like to see but not the one that was in the alexanderthemountain design.

Greece, being so much more ecologically friendly than it was a few years back, would certain think carefully about destroying nature in order to erect such a thing as a carved mountain face.Just got back. Hated to leave, but all good times must end eventually, as they say. It was, as always, a wonderful thing to be back in Greece. Just sorry I didn't have enough money to allow me a return to the north. One of these days I'd also like to explore Epiros more thoroughly. Hi Ruth!I got back yesterday morning from Greece, having spent a couple of weeks in Athens and up north. It was hot as hell (as I'm sure you're aware...) but absolutely amazing. I'd go back anytime!Hope you're having a brilliant time aswell.All the best,Neneh.

Yes, but not nearly as hot as usual. The meltemi wind was keeping things very pleasant. I'm back, suffering from major jet-lag and cultural shock and wishing I was still there....(I don;t consider myself a 'tourist' in Greece as I've been visiting and living there since '78 and it is my second home)
