Alexander Military Figures

Post by Raymond »

I was wondering if any Pothos users new of a company and/or site that made top scale Military
figurines. I'm really interested in having a model made of Alexander atop Bucephalus. Those of you interested can check out some nice sites I've come across:http://www.athens-show.gr (check out the figurines from the 2003 show)http://www.militarymodeling.comOk guys, thanks alot and I hope someone can help me.

Thanks for the links. In all my travels around Greece (and I've been up north many times) I've never seen a figurine of Alexander & Bucephalus, but wouldn't that be wonderful! I've seen the small scale soldiers of various kinds from ancient to evzones but not any particular of Macedonians. I will certainly keep looking while I'm there in June.

I was actually restrained from buying a model of Alexander riding
Bucephalus a couple of summers ago in Napflion by my partner
who pointed out that I was in the middle of moving house & was
living out of a suitcase & there was no room for such frivolities!!!...
never saw any thing like it in the north, Ruthaki! Last October the
same shop still had figures in the same series - I'm going out to
Greece in late May & will try to find out the maker, etc...wmp

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this - isn't there something about not linking to "commercial" sites on Pothos? Still, I don't know how to answer your question without giving these URL's. I guess Nick will delete this message if I'm violating any rules. :-) Anyway, all of these are Ebay items. The first, made in Greece, isn't strictly a minature as its just under six inches tall, but it's actually nicer than the photograph (which is way too dark) and as I own it I thought I'd post the info. I don't know much about the second, Russian seller. The third is also a Russian seller and very expensive, but they have a very good reputation and, I believe, only sell on Ebay. Click on their "store" links for other items.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6&rd=1Best regards,Amyntoros

OK, not top stuff, but on topic, and rather more affordable than anything else mentioned here...http://www.mcphee.com/amusements/current/11456.htmlPut a smile on my face :-) except for the Corinthian-style helmet :-( and the unillustrated breastplate (for which there was a perfect model on the Mosaic), though the illustrated shield is quite Achillean...Gary
