The Battles That Changed History by Fletcher Pratt has a homepage at http://www.bundy223.net/~andyb/prose/pratt.html#top. Pratt's 1956 book lists Gaugamela as the first in a list of sixteen battles that changed Western history, and the webbie has typed each chapter in rich text format that downloads in Word. Pratt gives a lot of historical background to the rise of Alexander before he analyzes the battle proper, and ends his chapter with a brief discussion on its historical ramifications. Check it out.
