Military Prowess of The Romans at the Time Of Babylon
Marcus HailWith reference to the lines in the movie towards the end Where Alexanders says" The Romans good fighters, Well beat them"I think this was more or less with hindsite and what we know. I know quite a bit about Rome when it was on top but just how developed were the Romans by the time Alexander died,, I would guess not much and really boubt Alexander thought that much about them as a military challenge. Its rumoured they sent ambassadors to Babylon to get in his good books, Is it reason to believe at that time Rome were not developed enough nor had the resources to tackle Alexander as they later maybe could have faced him.I often thought If Philip lived and left behing Alexander it may have been probable Alexander set of on his own little shindig west as regent Alexander did some fighting and organising of his own so maybe?Kenny

at that time rome stood no chance vs the macedonians. that being said, i doubt alexander would have ventured there if his father went on to persia, alexander would need to stay in greece and quell any possible rebellion.

Hi Kenny and Luis,Yes, I think the line was written from the point of view of hindsight. Even if the Romans were militarily advanced at that time, they weren't well enough known for Alexander to single them out. When Alexander of Epirus went over to Italy he fought against various Italian cities/tribes, but the Romans weren't one of them, and I'm not aware that knowledge of their existence made the slightest bit of difference. All the bestMarcus

well even if alexander knew about the romans (i think he did) and knew what good fighters they were. why would he go there if he could go to persia the wealthiest empire on earth (arguably)?
