Demostrhenese Boiling and Alexander Chuckling in His Grave
Companions hail.Linmda I love your views ans feedback with the movie and love the positive attitudes you have,Its a shame the critics crucified the film and the motives politicalor whatever they had.I as a rule use good reviews as a yard stick to stay away as the films generally ranked high tend to be the most borring and nausiating movies. A perfect mind, Shakespear in love, Piano Player, My left foot, Titanic, American Beauty, Born on The Fourth of July only a few highly praised but in my opinion over hyped cattle fodder,,, Linda I love you.Anyway about my original Note its ironic that in the times of Alexander the Greeks with Demosthenese detested our guy, What do we see now that the Greeks maybe rarelt are standing up for him, Wrongly in my opinion.Although I myself find gay sex repugnant I can accept it likely Alexander had bisexual relations, It seems that todays Greeks are so upset about the movie they are trying to sue the film makers with regard to the sexual content regarding Alexander.I dont really understand there reasoning as the ancient Greek culture was known to be bisexual the Spartans were compulsively gay.So I can see Alexander sat with Philip among the Greek god havging a little giggle that the Greeks are down here fighting hiscause and maybe Demosthenese sat on his own throwing the towel and saying to himself."Why the bloody hell did I bother, Alexander Philip and the Macedonians are having the last laugh?Marcus we only have hours to wait and we can all see, Paul Ross inn the News of The World gave the movie a brilliant review.regardsKenny

More like Alexander is boiling and turning in his grave. That movie is crap. remember the ancient macedonians were greek too. The only reason the greeks at the time detested Phillip & Alex was cause they were scared of a greater power in Ancient Greece. Especially a power that came from northern Greece and spoke a different greek dialect to that of the athenians.cheers stavros

I'll definately be seeing the film tommorow, and for the record thinks it looks to be a very good film. Of all the films set in the ancient world, it seems the most accurate. Sure, it may well have its flaws, most films that try to take on the topic of Alexander will. Its not the kind of subject you can give justice within the length of a single film.I must admit however that, I cannot fully comment until I have actually seen it, but I think many of the critics know very little of, and understand even less the ancient world of Alexander. Many of them would have been hoping to see an action packed extravaganza in the mould of Gladiator or Troy, but I commend Stones approach to go for a more historical approach that looks at Alexander as a human, with weaknesses and flaws which he did have.Still, I will be in a better position to give judgement tommorow, and am looking forward to it. The musical score by Vangelis is very good by the way.

Well, the film opens today. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to see it until Saturday ... I'm already counting the hours!I shall be viewing it as objectively as possible, that's for sure. Unfortunately, Kenny, I'm not sure how helpful Paul Ross's review is - as I understand it, he gives *everything* a brilliant review - but I shall make up my own mind, despite what 99% of the other reviewers say.All the bestMarcus

Hey ! There is no any proof in any historical document that Alexander was a gay. This perception that all the ancient Greeks were gay comes from the renaissance times when the people started discovering ancient Greece. Many thinks have been misinterpreted during the passage from the only book the Bible to the Ancient Greek literature and civilisation. The gap was and is huge and these are the results. We have also to see that the Athenians and Spartans were the dominant forces at the time in Greece. They would hate to be dominated by some new guys from the northern neibourhood. All the talk from retor Demosthenes about the barbarian Macedonians was mainly to arouse the Athenians against this coming danger.
