Re: This Movie is Turning Alexander into laughing Stock
Hello JonaI really loved "La vita e Bella" too. It was beautiful, funny, poignant and powerful all at the same time. The courage of the man was incredible.Kenny, I think that it's Alexander who's making a laughing stock of this time, not the other way around. Alexander had the freedom to be himself. So many people here and now do not. The outcry of the Greeks against Stone's portrayal of Alexander is just one example of how ridiculous this time has become. The Ancient Greeks were accepting of the whole range of sexuality. They understood that how a person loved was more important than who a person loved. Their own ancient texts are full of such discussions. Are the Greeks now going to sue people who publish their ancient texts? Or who show pictures of their pottery with men kissing one another? Better start getting prepared for a lot of litigation if you're not willing to re-write ancient history to make it acceptable to their modern prejudices. If in their excavations of ancient Pella they find a love letter of Alexander's to Hephaistion, is that going to disappear before it gets public attention? Or will they prosecute any archeologist who now finds anything that shows Alexander as anything other than heterosexual? It's these people who deserve to be laughed at, not Alexander.Halil

You really have to see the movie yourself to understand why it is that people are laughing about it. So what if Alexander is a laughing stock? In today's culture, everyone is made sport of in the late night talk shows. People have been laughing at George Bush and Tony Blair for years now. It is good fun to be able to laugh at one's self. I didn't think the problem with the movie is the gay stuff, even though it is done so poorly that one would wonder at the maturity level of cast and crew. There isn't anyone in the world who hasn't been spoofed who has made their claim to fame. That is part of the game. So let them have their fun. It is only a movie! You might even be one of those who like it as there are a few who do.Me, I wanted magnificence! But instead I got bored!

Greetings Halil,Well put. How ironic that "modern civilization" fails to see it perpetuates even *more* flaws, failures and immoralities than the ancient world, based in an even wider prejudice and bigotry, precisely because the modern world has had several thousand more years to learn from past errors yet has, instead, simply created new ones framed around, and more encompassing than, the old. Tragic. Regards,
Sikander
