Pictures Iran
Dear friends,I have put a substantial part of my Iran pictures on line at http://www.livius.org/a/iran.html . Not all of it is Alexander-related, but there are photos of Susa, the Persian Gate, Persepolis, Naq+í-i Rustam, Pasargadae, and Ecbatana. There will be additions to the Persepolis part in the next days.Jona

Re: Pictures Iran
Jona, thanks so much for sharing these wonderful photos and the interesting articles that accompany them. I have saved several pages in my 'favorite's file'. I also appreciate your footnote about Iran. A friend of mine (travel writer) also made a trip there not long ago and had the same positive experience. It's just a shame there is so much adverse propoganda put out about the country and people there. I happen to have a couple of Iranian friends and I am sure there are many more like them in that historically rich country.

"I'm planning on going to Iran next year and these act as merely another spur!"In February/March, I organized a trip myself, for eleven people. We hired a guide and a bus. It was a bit expensive (1450 euro p.p.; 17 days) but it was a good way to see a lot of the country in a relatively short time. We did not loose time looking for hotels or searching for this or that particular excacation. This left us a lot of time to meet people. Which is easy.I am currently planning a tour with a larger group of friends/acquaintences. We have a "secret website" at http://www.livius.org/toiran/trip.html . It is designed for ourselves but it may help you get an idea about travel in Iran.Jona

Re: Pictures Iran
That looks really interesting, Jona - thanks.I'm planning on using the tour company I went to Egypt with, which means that all the hassle of organising travel and accommodation is sorted. The tour (which is 21 days) seems to cover pretty much everything you list - I'm disappointed that they don't get to Susa, but obviously the main attraction is Persepolis. They do also do some more stuff around the Caspian coastline.I'll probably be going in May - so long as I have the money! All the bestMarcus

Thanks, Jona, for such a wonderful site. I am really so pleased. You are masterful. Jan
Re: Pictures Iran
Hi Jona, again, I just took the full tour and am worn out! But I enjoyed the snow man.
The bus looks good, and I am trying to contact you with e-mail. If I am successful, you will get it. I truly enjoyed this tour, all your hard work and effort, and especially the pleasure of your "nice" friends. It was a great trip. Truly one can see why it is that Persia is so inviting. Jan

I tried the e-mail but I am sorry that I cannot access it at this computer. I will try again later.
