Thanks, Tre, for citing Aristoboulus, as it caught my attention at the time. Most use July 20, and some have said August and that he is a Leo. I had read somewhere that it was August 11. It still seems to me that were the date of the temple of Artemis known and the date of the horserace that it would be easily remembered. Jan

Because it is just a legend, probably, like the battles of Himera and Thermopylae being fought on the same day and similar coincidences.In my opinion, the temple burnt down in the same summer as Alexander's birth - and that's everything. Later, when Alexander entered the Ephesus region and civil strife broke out, people "remembered" that it had been predicted that a great disaster would befall Asia.Jona
