Did ATG Visit the Shamsi Valley?
Oh Great Forum, I was recently in the Buluchistan Desert and visited a placed the local Pakistanis called Alexander the Great's Fortress at the south end of the Shamsi Valley. Do you know where this is? I have photos and pottery shards. Is this for real. Ed

Hi,
Not sure that Alexander actually traversed through Baluchistan proper, however after reading Tarn, it seems likely that his successors decendants may have had some involvment in the area due to the growing spice trade. A number of coins( late Seleucid period) were found in the area, but no mention of fortresses as such. ( thats not to say there were no fortresses built of course).cheers!

Well, Marcus, i think that whomever wants to see them will have to let loose a handful of euros/dollars! [including the pottery shards!]

Susan, yes it was near an airport but I have not heard of the town. I guess I will attempt to show the fortress photos to some ATG-learned folks--the fighting positions look like they were made for shooting arrows opposed to bullets. Any idea who this might me? Should I go to the National Geograpic? Ed
