Hephaestion maybe?

Post by Alexias »

This is for Pauline - a head of a god or athlete in the British Museum, dating to 320-300 BC by a follower of Praxitiles. It's not a very good photo, but a candidate for Hephaestion?

Sorry for not answering sooner. This is the ' Aberdeen ' head , and as J.Boardman says ' we are at the time when the dividing line between heroic idealization and the making of statues ( of men ) it is not clear " This is probably the head of a handsome boxer . On his head one can still see the traces of a wreath. It doesnt seem to be a portrait - head although we are tempted to believe so. And it is a original one .
