Burned in Babylon entomed in the Hephaistium at Alexandria I think.
When you think about, it free-choice is the only possible option.

Technically, we do not know. There is some confusion in the sources but supposedly part of the wall of Babylon was demolished to be part of the pyre given Hephaistion in Babylon. It is unlikely that anything, including bones, would have survived such a pyre, so it is more than likely a 'burial' was not required. Babylon, as the seat of Alexander's empire, would likely be the resting place of anything that did survive as long as Alexander was alive.

I had asked this question some months ago:
http://www.pothos.org/forum/showmessage ... geID=9352I have seen the stone lion in Hamadan, recent studies suggest that it was built definitely by Alexander but it is not clear that hephaestion has been buried there or not.http://www.caroun.com/Countries/Asia/Ir ... madan.html
