Thanks for this, it's amazing. It looks almost modern in design. The fight over Patroclus' corpse? There's more info here http://magazine.uc.edu/editors_picks/re ... piece.html

It has became viral , because it flips upside down everything we knew about the History of ancient art by 900 ca years!

MYCAENE 1500 bC

This amazing signet is a finding from the ' Griffin s warrior grave' that the American Archeological School dug up in Pylos ,(Messinia, Peloponesus)in 2015 and will of course be published along with all the other findings.A taste of the dug can be found on the lecture about it ,which i posted on pothos ( The Lord of the rings) Oct .13 2016
What makes the signet stand out , is the very accurate depiction of the three dimensions. As it also shown by the Mycenae signet ( a scene of combat between warriors, a fallen warrior ) the theme was repeating itself with a certain frequency , but here we have an astonishing depiction of the 3 dimensions along with a plasticity of the figures and a very well made depiction of the figures movements .
All this in at most 3 cm surface !It is certain that magnifying glass was used ...see. Sakellarakis, Yannis.A. and George Sines ' Lences in Antiquity' American Journal of Archaeology 91.2 ( 1981) 191-196
