(Paralus, we're taking your suggestion...) We are also looking at Matt Barrett's recommended travel agents... War...

Hi all:

Question for anyone who might know -- how do you access Thermopylai? We're trying to figure out how to get to it from the highway...

Warmly,

Hi wmp (et al):

Thanks for the great info!

Are you in Greece past the 15th? Maybe we could hook up.

I might well be PM'ing you.

Warmly,
Karen

Hi all: Paralus & Stathi -- got the cellphone covered -- my friend's ordered one to rent. Best deal we could find. If you're renting a car out of Athens rent it from Swift. Great -- we'll look into it -- thanks. Further, if you've not booked a hotel, the Attalos is excellent value for money and ...

Hi all: Sandra -- I have no idea about public transport. With any luck Efstathios will come back on and tell us. My friend and I plan to rent a car. I am going to drive and am boning up on the 26 Simple Rules of Survival on Greek Roads . Here is my favourite: 1) You must always keep in mind that you...

Cell phone research

Hi Ruthaki and/or other experienced Greece travellers:

What's the best/cheapest way to get a month's worth of cellphone service in Greece?

International roaming through our home services is pricey pricey pricey... we're looking at rentals and SIM cards... any ideas?

Warmly,
Karen

I'm going there

Hi all: My hopes for a research trip to Greece were dashed back in February when I learned I'd been turned down for a grant... but due to what I would call an emotional miracle -- let's just say someone close to me acted in a way extremely opposite to how he always has -- I'm now able to go, and hav...

That [is] probably because they want to say that gay people can also be military leaders, warriors, or anything else that traditionally is considered masculine.
Newsflash!

And guess what. They can!

What if I say the inscribed signature of Lysippos has been found on this statue? Has it? Pictorial evidence, please. You are trying to convince us without giving us - the name of the head archaeologist - the date of the find - where the archaeologist published about it - whether or how it's been da...

But you still did write "most," Paralus, and the meaning of the sentence doesn't change even if it's referring to a point of mine. I stand by my "most" (as I said, I think the overall numbers would likely confirm it) and still dispute yours, as a blurring of fact. I don't know wh...

The word used was "many"; most was your word. Paralus, what you wrote exactly was (emphasis added): Most “average people”, by which I take it you refer to the native populations, had just a little more than their “surplus labour creamed off”. Many were enslaved and transplanted to support...

YOU TWO MUST TAKE INNUMERABLE PICTURES allowing the rest of us to join you vicariously on your trips! I am hoping to go to Greece, esp. Makedonia, in the spring, but at this point it seems a real long shot financially. Unless I get a certain book grant, though in truth that's a long shot too. I'm af...

It would be interesting to run down the list of cities and peoples he conquered, and enumerate how many surrendered and essentially just had to change the address to which they sent their tax money and levies of soldiers, vs. how many fought back and had their populations sold into slavery, massacre...

Just want to differ with you, Phoebus, on one point. Obviously being able to do something doesn't necessarily make it right, but I would argue that much of Alexander's spending was centered on making what he saw as a necessary evil possible. That is, the continuation and fruition of the military cam...
